We vowed to return to the high peak of the Salmah Plateau, so here we are. During the night of the new moon, we went aloft to star-gaze and marvel once more at the constellations, the Milky Way and numerous shooting stars. With little light pollution, no moon and clear, clear skies we were treated to a spectacular show. As always, the ride there and back was an adventure – so much so that we made a video of it for you. If you have forty five minutes of your life to spare then check out our amazing journey and click the link at the end.
Having made the round trip, we sat upon the rocks and gazed out to sea with cheese sandwich in hand. Before our very eyes, only 200 feet away, two Killer Whales breached at the same time and continued to frolic, roll, fin-splash and breach up the coast. A hasty dash for the video camera and still camera proved fruitless as both batteries were dead from making your youtube video. Caressing of said cameras brought back enough battery life to fire off one shot. By now the whales had frolicked their way up the coast and the zoom could never do any justice to what we actually saw – and felt – right in front of us. For the sake of verisimilitude however, a photo:
The rest, as they say, is in our heads.
A brief weekend to take in the mountain air and stargaze before returning home. Weekends really don’t get any better than this.
Don’t forget, check out our video and tell your friends to enjoy it too. It’s exciting, it’s musical, it’s fun, fun, fun!
